The mission of Beit Issie Shapiro (BIS) is to provide cutting-edge services to improve quality of life for people with disabilities, and to effect social change by breaking down the barriers preventing people with disabilities from full societal intgration, assuring them the rights and opportunities for maximum growth and development.
Beit Issie Shapiro impacts 30,000 children and adults every year through:
- developing and providing direct educational and therapeutic services, impacting some 6,600 people
- changing attitudes in the community and influencing policy, impacting some 18,700 people
- developing and disseminating knowledge through research and training, impacting some 3,500 people
In July 2012, Beit Issie Shapiro was granted ‘Special Consultative Status’ by the UN’s Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC)
In 2012, Beit Issie Shapiro has been awarded the Rotary Club International Award for Tolerance.
In 2011, Beit Issie Shapiro was recognized as Israel’s first ‘Most Effective Non Profit Organization’ by efficiency monitor Midot.
